Despite being a known fact to most people, the big Web players still try to hush hush the fact that users are provided with 'free' services in exchange for their personal data. If this is the deal, why aren't users instigated to voluntarily donate their data?

As an experiment I called a number of marketing companies offering them my personal data to see how they reacted. Answers were far from enlightening, but as everyone that I spoke to was so helpful and knowledgeable that I decided to share my findings.
